The Young Artist Program

Based on the best points of the most established pre-college programs in the world, this signature program aims to give young people a world-class musical education regardless of their location. A select number of students join in Dr. Brown’s class and participate in this rich educational initiative every year. Supporting young violinists from their early years to their Carnegie Hall debuts, the Young Artist Program includes private lessons, weekly repertoire classes, practice coaching and enrichment activities. This program runs from mid-September to mid-June each year, with the option to continue during the summer session and/or participate in the Montreal Intensives. Admission is by audition.

Extension (Group) Program

This program provides access to our weekly group classes, as well as recitals and priority registration for summer programs.

Group classes a popular choice for students hoping to enter the young artist program, those who are on the waiting list, or for students who would like to enrich their work with their home teacher. Organized by level and time zone, these classes provide a well-rounded complimentary activity to private lessons. In addition to creating a sense of community and belonging with other you violinists, they include performance opportunities, the development of technical and musicianship skills, and an introduction to major themes in music history.

Summer & Winter Intensives

1:1 Intensives

The progress that results from these periods immersive and focussed 1:1 work is truly transformational. Located in Montreal and other locations throughout the year, these bespoke periods of 3-10 days of intense work allow young violinists to prepare for major milestones and events without distraction. Tailored-made for each student, they can include a variety of complimentary activities such as coaching with piano, concerts, instrument shopping or recording sessions in addition to extended periods of daily instruction.

Located in Montreal, these limited-enrolment weeks are immersive experiences for the young violinists who participate in them. Mornings are dedicated to technical workouts, private lessons and piano coachings. Afternoons give us the opportunity to play ensemble music and to explore different facets of our craft with world experts in their respective fields (violin making/restoration, traditional music, conducting etc.), and evening activities allow us to connect with other violinists and families while being inspired by Montreal’s amazing cultural life.
